Note to my gentle reader(s?); until my new figures arrive and get painted I'm afraid that I'm just going to be stealing pics from the internet and using them to illustrate the unfolding events.

The question of the succession has quickly become an excuse for religious differences and old feuds to be settled with the musket ball and sword. The Catholic minority in the Duchy of Geltdiggen have found themselves besieged by their protestant neighbours, and, as yet, his Grace has not allowed the military to intervene. The Cardinal Adolphus has sent a strongly worded letter of protest to his uncle demanding that the violence be terminated. His next move can only be to send Lifonlian troops in to the troublesome region.

When King Fredolphus II of Lifonlia died at the grand old age of 87, the week of mourning that followed was a time of fevered discussion throughout the little kingdom. The single topic; the succession. (That and, of course, the beetroot harvest)
Fredolphus’ family, the Hobbsburgs, like all royal dynasties of the time, had not been keen on the idea of introducing too much new blood into the line. This had resulted in the unfortunate madness of Fredolphus’s first born, Prince Frederic (cracked at age 34, now a dribbling 50); the irrationality of his second son , Major General Orlando Hobbsburg, currently dying of shot-gun wounds received during a hunting party, and, possibly, the piety of Cardinal Adolphus, his third son.
With the first three heirs all looking either mad, in extremis, or called to higher things, a fourth option, in the form of Duke Ludwig Hobbsburg, younger brother to the late king and a sprightly, if rather slimy, 60 years of age, was rallying support. Regrettably, Ludwig had married a Protestant (gasps) and had, on his marriage, converted (horror). Most of the population of his Dukedom had converted with him (expletive). This fact had been ignored up until the death of his highness King Fredolphus. Now, however, religious tensions, coupled with the fear of instability in this “in-between” time, were enough to turn heated debate into physical violence and for the, relatively peaceful kingdom to take up arms and pick sides.
There was also, naturally, the possibility of intervention from other states; after all, the Hobbsburgs were related to most of the royal houses on the continent. War was brewing, both civil and, well, uncivil...

Now I, your humble narrator, will be attempting, through the medium of this blog, to talk you through the lamentable history of the Wars of the Lifonlian Succession.
